The Game Agency Wins 2 International Serious Play Awards

The Game Agency (TGA) wins 2 International Serious Play Awards for a series of K-12 Educational gamified courses recently released across North America.

TGA was awarded 1 Gold and 1 Silver in the categories of Literacy and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) for K-12 Education.

The Gold award was given to a gamified course created for The Early Literacy Project, a coalition of corporations and organizations committed to helping teach students in kindergarten, first, and second grade with critical literacy subskills, and cultivating a passion for reading. Comprised of 15 beautifully illustrated mini-games, this course focuses on multiple learning objectives including letter identification, spelling, word building, phonemic awareness and beginner-level reading. The course follows a story of an imaginary team of space commanders who have been tasked with keeping the world safe from environmental dangers. By using games to build, practice, and reinforce critical literacy skills, students are given the opportunity to immerse themselves into this fantastical world where they are the hero of their own literary journey.

The Silver was awarded to an Online Safety game designed to teach middle school students how to be responsible digital citizens. It just takes one wrong click to end up in a world of trouble. From crashing hard drives to hijacking passwords, computer viruses can be lethal. This course educates students on the nuts and bolts of how technology works while placing them in a variety of virtual environments and challenging them to tackle issues including internet safety, cyberbullying, and properly crediting creators of online content. The most memorable learning experiences are the fun ones. That’s no exception here, where everything comes together with interactive gameplay. Students must demonstrate their mastery of digital issues by creating a blog, managing a social networking site, solving technology problems, and working to resolve a cyberbullying situation. The special balance between custom game design, artwork, and course development is what sets this course apart from the typical online learning course, leading to higher engagement that ultimately results in increased learner retention.

“Now more than ever, there is a real need for quality Edtech around the globe and in creating each of these games I believe we advance the K-12 offerings,” said Stephen Baer, Co-Founder & Head of Creative, The Game Agency. “We appreciate the awards we have received from Serious Play and we are thrilled to see each game being used by tens of thousands of students around the globe. The Game Agency believes that a well-designed game can educate, motivate, and activate students more effectively than any other teaching method. We are hyper-focused on encouraging discovery, providing feedback, and creating success stories one student at a time.”
